Hi, I was wondering when it says: Find the maximum and the minimum of a function, is it referring to the domain, the range or both?

e.g.: f(x) = 6 + 4cos(x) - sin2(x)

How would you work this one out? Thanks :D

It's referring to the y-values - so the range.

So if your range is [3, 5], then your minimum is 3, and your maximum is 5.

For that example, you'd probably have to use your calculator and graph it out to look for the maximum and minimum, since it's a bit complicated.

is there a way to do it by hands? – Thao Jan 8 at 2:05
You could try addition of ordinates (draw them all separately, then add them) - it's tedious, painful, and not really worth it. – Collin Li Jan 8 at 2:12
